MY MOST MEMORABLE FOOTBALL FINAL EVER

MY MOST MEMORABLE FINAL   EVER.     My most memorable final has to be the 2011/2012 UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL , which featured BAYERN MUNICH FOOTBALL CLUB of Germany against CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB of England. Chelsea's march to the final was impressive, to say the least. Following a 3:1 loss to Napoli in the round of sixteen first leg which led to coach Andres Villas-Boas being sacked, assistant coach Roberto Di Matteo was put in temporary charge and he sparked a revival, starting with a 4:1 win over Napoli in the reverse leg.     They went on to dismiss Benfica in the quarter finals before setting up an encounter with Catalan giants, Barcelona. Despite being tagged as under dogs, the Blues edged out Barcelona 3:2 on aggregate.     With Barcelona eliminated, the stage was set for a titanic battle even though Bayern Munich were still overwhelming favourites despite Chelsea's heroics against Barcelona in the semi-finals. ...

NIGERIAN UNITY:TO BE OR NOT TO BE

ARTICLE THIRTEEN NIGERIAN UNITY:TO BE OR NOT TO BE.             When it comes to the problem of Nigeria’s unity, everyone has an opinion. On the whole that is a good thing as it shows that the everyone, from the pepper and ewedu seller in the open market to the chief executive in his air-conditioned office, cares about the fate of our nation. But the problem is that there is a mind-bending paradox inherent in the way Nigerians discuss the unity of our country. On the one hand, Nigerians are unanimous in their view that the problems of Nigeria are not simple. They are complex and numerous: staggering unemployment, endemic   corruption, soaring inflation, alarming insecurity, etc. On the other hand, these people are equally unanimous in proferring simple answers to these complex problems. You hear things like the money-loving igbos are the bane of the country, or the duplicitous Yorubas are the ones standing in th...

HOW HOLLYWOOD CAN MAKE NIGERIA A BETTER DEMOCRACY

ARTICLE TWELVE HOW HOLLYWOOD CAN MAKE NIGERIA A BETTER DEMOCRACY       Once upon a time, Hollywood was white-blindingly white. All the major actors were white. All the major producers were white. All the major directors were white. All the major stories were white. When minorities began to appear at all, they were confined to non-essential roles like janitors, delivery truck driver, etc, or to dull stereotypical roles. Hollywood was so white that discerning people could not bear to look at it directly. But, little by little, Hollywood listened to criticism and began to blend other colors, black, yellow, red, etc with its white. This effort has culminated in films like Get Out and Black Panther, movies hemmed by black directors and telling stories that are fiercely black. Not only are these movies critically acclaimed, but judging by the waves they are making, they are acceptable to ordinary people of all colours; and they are making money. ...

EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE AND IT'S EFFECT ON THE NIGERIAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE AND IT’S EFFECTS ON THE NIGERIAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM. Examination malpractice refers to any form of illegal, undue, or unfair means utilized by people(mostly students and teachers) to scale through the perceived “hurdle” of examination. The rate at which students in secondary and tertiary institutions of learning now engage in examination malpractice is quite alarming and disheartening. Both teachers and even the school authorities are now the main actors in the facilitation of examination practices. In secondary schools today, it is a common occurrence to see students having sexual affairs with teachers in exchange for good grades. It is also common to see the school authorities facilitating ways and methods for students to engage in examination malpractices. For instance, during public examinations like WASSCE and NECO, some school authorities reportedly facilitate ways for answers to be dictated to the students inside the examination hall, or bribe...
